Insulating Your Pipes
One of the problems with piping of any type is lost heat - which causes lost energy and increased heating costs, with the potential for frozen pipes in winter and condensation in the summer. One of the easiest steps you can take to help fix this problem is through insulation. Pipe insulation helps maintain water temperature in the pipes and comes in two main types - wrap on insulation and foamed plastic tubing.
At Keim Lumber, foamed tubing is available in 3 different sizes: 1/2", 3/4", or 1" These foam wraps cut heat loss, reduces condensation, and resists freezing. These foam tubes slide easily over the pipes in your home and have a yellow self-seal release liner that is both easy to see and peel.

Also available are Wrap-On fiberglass or heating cables. The fiberglass wraps are available in differing lengths, thicknesses, and widths. Simply wind the wrap around your piping being sure to cover all areas.
Lastly, you may choose to use heating cables. Heating cables prevent frozen water pipes to –50ºF. Simply wrap on, insulate and plug in. Engineered for use on metal and rigid plastic pipes. Uses an exclusive Press-To-Test™ button so you can test the cable before installing. A built-in thermostat turns the cable on at 38ºF. Proven low-wattage design uses up to 70 percent less energy than other cables and protects to –50ºF. An exclusive power sensor light glows when the thermostat is closed. Please follow installation instructions that come with each individual insulation product. Some products may not be compatible with certain piping materials.
